Orange Cove

Our new getaway in the city, 15 minutes on foot from door to the new Cal State Northridge historic orange grove pond. The pond is a new addition to the orange grove on the corner of Nordhoff and Zelzah. It is as far as I no the last grove of its kind-once the whole valley was groves.
The new landmark is officially named the "orange grove pond", However, I've decided that "pond" isn't really a good name, for me it conjures up images of slimy, deep green-mosquito infested waters; therefore I have christened our new walk to spot "Orange Cove", see they should have asked me!
Highlights are of course the turtles. The most we've seen is five. Last night I reached into the water and picked up a baby turtle. The little thing was none too happy, it hissed at me! I quickly put it back, and drenched my red hoodie sleeve.
One end of the pond has many, many tadpoles! J and I are looking forward to the day we see frogs. There are a couple of fish darting about, I am a bit curious why there aren't more? Maybe turtles eat fish? We say two cute ducks the other night, a green headed mallard, and and tan and gray one. It is rather a delightful setting and I am already planning a picnic. We walked here at least three times this week; the orange cove walk is our after dinner relaxation. One of the best part is ALL THOSE ORANGES, if you know my husband, you know that he loves oranges.
He's been climbing the tree's finding just the right tree for us to pick from. Last night we shared an orange from the grove while sitting on a stone bench overlooking our very own sanctuary.
